James Strachan is a Post-doctoral Fellow at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University.

He is an experimental cognitive psychologist with research expertise in joint action, social learning, and motor cognition. He holds a PhD in Psychology (2016) from the University of York, UK. From 2016 to 2020, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Central European University in Budapest, Hungary, in the Social Mind and Body lab. In 2020, he was awarded a MSCA-COFUND fellowship as part of the interdisciplinary project MINDED at the Italian Institute of Technology in Genoa, Italy. Then, in 2023 he moved to the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf as a Humboldt Research Fellow.

During his PhD and postdoctoral career, he has taught as a teaching assistant and guest lecturer at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the UK (York) and Hungary (BME, ELTE). His research uses laboratory experiments to investigate the cognitive mechanisms that people use to interact and share knowledge with one another in the context of joint action (coordinating actions with another person to achieve a shared goal) and teaching (transmitting knowledge about a skilled technique from an expert to a novice).
