Nicolas Porot is an Assistant Professor at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University.

His research includes both experimental and non-experimental work in behavioral science. Currently, he is especially interested in how people form and change their beliefs, and in how beliefs spread in groups. He has worked on many topics in the study of cognition, including fake news, mechanisms of belief formation, evidence-resistance, delusions, biases in moral reasoning, thought in animals and infants, and experimental semantics. He teaches classes in ethics and moral psychology, experimental design, and research methods. He co-directs, along with Mathieu Charbonneau, a center for the instruction of writing within the Faculty.

Before joining the FGSES in 2020, Porot was a postdoc in Bence Nanay’s group at the Centre for Philosophical Psychology, University of Antwerp. Before that, he completed a Ph.D. in philosophy at the CUNY Graduate Center in New York City (thesis: “Some Non- Human Languages of Thought”; advisor: Eric Mandelbaum), during which he spent a year as a Visiting Assistant in Research working with Josh Knobe at Yale.

He holds a Research Master in cognitive science jointly conferred by the EHESS, the ENS-Ulm, and Paris Descartes University; and he was a student at the ENS-Ulm from 2011 to 2016. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from UCLA and is also originally from Los Angeles.
