He is Directeur de Recherche (Research Director) at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) in France. He has been Professor of Decision Sciences at HEC Paris since 2007 and currently coordinates the «Future Risks & Economic Behavior» research program at the Africa Institute for Research in Economics and Social Sciences (AIRESS) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University.
His research focuses on individual and organizational decision-making under conditions of uncertainty and over time, adopting a multidisciplinary perspective. At descriptive, normative, and prescriptive levels, his work spans observed behavior (in both experimental and real-world contexts), the development of decision models that extend beyond standard rationality assumptions, and decision-aiding systems in the field of Decision Analysis.
Professor Abdellaoui’s research has appeared in leading journals in Economics, Management Sciences, and Psychology, including the American Economic Review, Econometrica, Review of Economic Studies, Management Science, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Economic Theory, Journal of Econometrics, Games and Economic Behavior, Economic Theory, Operations Research, Journal of Risk and Uncertainty, and Theory and Decision. He has served as President of the Association Française d’Économie Expérimentale (ASFEE) and co-founded RISLab (Risk, Insurance, and Savings Laboratory) at Ghent University, an international network dedicated to behavioral economics. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of Theory and Decision, a journal that promotes interdisciplinary advances in Decision Sciences.
