We are especially interested in applicants with strong backgrounds in data collection and analysis methods and an interest in applying their expertise in empirical research to policy-making.

Special consideration will be given to candidates familiar with Morocco, Africa or the Global South.

Founded in 2016, UM6P is a well-funded, non-profit university created to provide world-class educational experiences and produce cutting-edge research in the physical and social sciences. UM6P was established to serve countries of the Global South, with an emphasis on providing research relevant to Africa, and training students from the continent.

The Social Sciences, Economics and Humanities Cluster at UM6P is a teaching and research ecosystem that closely brings together three entities: the Faculty of Governance, Economics and Social Sciences (FGSES), which offers Bachelor’s, Master’s as well as Ph.D. programs; the Africa Institute for Research in Economics and Social Sciences (AIRESS), which is geared towards research; and the Public Policy School (PPS), which offers executive education programs for decision-makers in both the public and private sectors.

All three entities have a common goal: contributing to the development of the African continent. The strategy for achieving this is to endow public policy with actionable knowledge grounded in research as well as highly skilled professionals that can critically assess issues facing the continent and the globe.

Job duties and responsibilities involve teaching and research, typically with 60/40 or 50/50 splits. Ideally, faculty research will contribute to the UM6P goal of producing quality research relevant to the African continent. Permanent professors are also expected to raise external funding to support their research activities.

Applicants must have a Doctorat or Ph.D. in Sociology, or an equivalent discipline. Candidates must provide evidence of effective teaching and must demonstrate skills in data collection and analysis– with significant scientific publications in one or more of the social science disciplines.

Applicants must provide: (i) a detailed curriculum vita, (ii) a separate, full list of publications, (iii) one example of research output, (iv) a proof of degree completion, (v) at least two letters of recommendation,
(vi) evidence of effective post-secondary teaching experience and (vii) evidence of successful advising of Masters and Ph.D. level research consistent with international standards.

For full consideration, please ensure your application is complete. All the items should be assembled (in the order listed) in a single “zipped” file and sent by email [email protected] , with “Sociology Position” in the subject line.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis with the earliest interviews starting as soon as mid- January.

Selected candidates will be invited to an initial interview. After this stage, candidates may be invited to give a 60 to 75 minutes job talk and a mock lecture.

Salary and benefits are internationally competitive and commensurate with experience. Nationals of African states are strongly encouraged to apply.

UM6P-FGSES is located in Rabat, Morocco’s capital city, a cosmopolitan city on the Atlantic coast midway between Casablanca and Tanger. Rabat and Casablanca’s international airports directly connect with most countries worldwide.
