Postdoctoral Research Associate – African Institute for Research in Economics and Social Sciences
The African Institute for Research in Economics and Social Sciences (AIRESS), Faculty of Governance, Economics and Social Sciences (FGSES), Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Rabat, is seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Rethinking Global politics from Africa project with a specific focus on the Morocco Atlantic Initiative.
The Postdoctoral Associate will collaborate closely with Professor Norman Sempijja to examine Morocco's role in Africa, with a particular emphasis on the Morocco Atlantic Initiative. Since rejoining the African Union in 2017, Morocco has actively worked to strengthen its relationships with other African nations, with the Morocco Atlantic Initiative standing out as a notable example. The project will investigate the initiative's potential and the challenges it may pose for both Morocco and other African countries. The research will focus on key conceptual frameworks, including but not limited to South-South cooperation and the security-development nexus.

Key Responsibilities
- Engage in research on designated topics to contribute to knowledge production through publishing research papers.
- Organise seminars and/or conferences with AIRESS
- Contribute to the teaching environment at UM6P
- Present research findings at international conferences and workshops
- Collaborate with researchers within the Rethinking Global Politics from Africa Group
This role will entail engaging in research on the project and teaching within the faculty or other allocated activities. The research will entail building a body of literature and collecting both primary and secondary data. The appointee will engage in data collection in Morocco and where possible other African countries.
Essential criteria
- PhD in Political Science or International Relations.
- Background in foreign policy analysis and/or security studies
- Skills and experience in qualitative research methods.
- Experience in research on Africa with a focus on Morocco.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and where possible French.
- Knowledge of and familiarity with research ethics.
- Familiarity with online methods of dissemination of research outcomes.
- Proven capacity to write and present conference papers and publish peer-reviewed articles.
- Located or be willing to relocate to Morocco for the duration of the fellowship
