Postdoctoral Researcher in Forced Displacement

The Faculty of Governance, Economics and Social Sciences (FGSES) of the University Mohammed VI Polytechnic (UM6P) has been awarded a five-year grant from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) in Canada. The grant is part of an ambitious program to create and support a network of 12 research chairs across the Global South. The aim is to support the production of evidence-based research on forced displacement.

The Faculty of Governance, Economics and Social Sciences (FGSES) invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral position to support the research programme planned by the Chair on Forced Displacement.

The roles and responsibilities of the successful candidate include research and policy outreach. The postdoc will conduct research on forced displacement using an interdisciplinary, multi-sectoral and gender-transformative approach. They will conduct outreach with impacted communities, particularly refugee-led initiatives, support localized agenda-setting, amplify refugee and host community voices, and advocate with policy stakeholders at local and international levels to ensure a strong link between research and policy.

key Responsabilities

  • Support the implementation of the research and outreach activities of the Chair on Forced Displacement in the Faculty of Governance, Social and Economic Sciences. 
  • Support oversight of the activities and projects of the Chair and ensure their communication to relevant stakeholders
  • Collaborate and coordinate with all relevant departments of the FGSES in the design, organization and running of events relevant to the work of the chair.
  • Actively contribute to knowledge production with the Chair, through the publishing of research papers and policy briefs.
  • Contribute to the provision of technical progress reports to FGSES and IDRC and engage with both institutions in regional and global fora.

Requirements

  • PhD in Social Sciences: political science, demography, sociology, public policy, development economics or any discipline relevant to migration and forced displacement studies
  • Proven record of publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Fluency in Arabic, English and French
  • Excellent command of written English and French
  • Strong academic knowledge in the field of migration, forced displacement and/or refugee law
  • Field experience with forcibly displaced persons and/or migrants and refugees would be a plus
  • Previous experience in a role in government or at NGOs working with migrants would be a plus.
  • Willingness and commitment to work with different stakeholders, including but not limited to civil society organizations, local authorities and representatives of forcibly displaced communities.

About the IDRC Forced Displacement Researched Chair's Network

The IDRC Forced Displacement Research Chairs’ Network has been created to formally link the research chairs through regular meetings and activities. The aim is to provide a forum for collaboration and the amplification of the work of the individual chairs and their collective impact nationally and globally. It will support: peer-to-peer and collaborative learning, cross-regional exchange and collaborative research and analysis; joint knowledge mobilization activities in the form of webinars, publications, newsletters and social media and online presence; sustainability, training and capacity- building activities, including applications for further funding; and access to global fora to disseminate the work of the research chairs to better impact global policies on forced displacement, particularly UN and government policies.
