Jan Galip Erk is an Associate Professor at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University.
He works on comparative law and governance, with special focus on constitutions and constitutionalism. His research, writing, teaching, and supervision cover various themes in the West and the African continent but all share a common theoretical approach emphasising the long-term and large-scale impact underlying social structures exert on the workings of the formal institutions that sit above, and the attending processes of political and legal change.
Professor Erk holds two doctorates, a PhD in Political Science from McGill University, Canada and an LLD in Public Law from the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
At the Faculté de Gouvernance, Sciences Économiques et Sociales (FGSES) he teaches in both Political Science and Public Law programmes. Professor Erk also convenes the Qualitative Research Methods course for the faculty’s master’s programmes where he highlights the variety of challenges researchers might encounter in non-Western settings.
