Prior to joining UM6P, Dr. Hentschel was with the World Bank for more than 30 years. At the World Bank, he specialized in poverty reduction policies, inclusive employment growth and human development and worked in the Africa, Europe and Central Asia, MENA, South Asia and the Latin America and Caribbean regions. In 2012, he assumed the role as deputy director of the World Development Report 2013 that focused on Jobs. The positions he held in the World Bank included Regional Country Director for the Maghreb and Malta, Regional Country Director for Latin America’s Southern Cone and Sector Director for Human Development in South Asia.
Dr. Hentschel also held consultancy appointments with DFID, UNCTAD, and the Inter- American Development Bank. He was a lecturer in Development Policy at the University of Potsdam from 2000 to 2002 and is a research fellow with IZA, Institute of Labor Economics.
He has published in refereed journals on poverty measurement, household welfare analysis, contextual research methods, poverty mapping, skills development, and employment.
Jesko Hentschel holds graduate degrees in agricultural economics, international economics and social policy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Konstanz and the London School of Economics.
